Vancouver

February 21st, 2012 Permalink

Last week I took a quick trip to Vancouver. I didn’t bother to bring my “big” camera since the trip didn’t lend itself to focusing on photography. That said, it’s difficult for me to avoid taking a photo or three.
Here are a few of the photos I ending up taking. I was pretty happy with how my trusty iPhone worked out in the city.

The home of the Seattle Seahawks and another iPhone shot. I watched the Seahawks defeat the Ravens over the weekend. I made some photos with my 7D as well as my iPhone. I settled on this one as my favourite field shot. I liked the extra wide angle I got from the phone. I took some liberties with the Camera+ app, but I think it represents the feeling I experienced there the best.

First, it was late. I had forgotten my camera. I know, I don’t forget my camera. I stood in the way of traffic and held up my iPhone 4S and grabbed three shots. I edited the best one at Starbucks with the Camera+ app and the result is what you see here. This isn’t award winning. It’s a well photographed landmark, but the fact remains that I had left my 7D in the hotel and was able to come back with good looking images that can be posted and printed large. I still make the photograph but I have to acknowledge that advances in technology sure give the photographer a lot of options.

Tchesinkut Lake always seems to present some sort of photographic opportunity. Even though the sun is actually missed from this view, the light is so great.

I had an amazing lunch on the top floor of this building. That floor is 180m high. I’ll have a panorama from the restaurant as my next post.

I shot this from the boat that I was having dinner on in Tokyo Bay. Since the tsunami earlier this year the Japanese people, and businesses, have been taking energy conservation very seriously. As well as keeping a lot of lights out, they are also keeping workplaces at a balmy 26 degrees or more. The Rainbow Bridge in Tokyo Bay never did show its colours while I was there.

Advancement

The Japanese are known for embracing technology. They are also known for using the tool that best suits the job. As much as it felt like every other vehicle in Japan was a Toyota, there were a lot of bikes as well. The sidewalks had sides for pedestrians, and sides for bicycles. Why drive when a bike gets you there faster, and cleaner. Always advancing.

While in Tokyo I was able to visit the Meiji Shrine. Please enjoy some images from in and around the shrine.

The very upscale shopping district in Tokyo, Japan. It has not been as busy since the tsunami earlier this year. Tourism is, however, starting to improve.

Affection reflection – Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel

Sadly, I didn’t even notice the couple was holding hands until I returned home.
Taken just outside the lobby of the Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel. The hotel lobby is on the 15th floor of the building. This area is where the first set of elevators bring you to reach the hotel and other areas of the building. A few years ago this building was also the tallest in Nagoya. A building across the street now has that distinction – as well as holds one of 3 head offices for the Toyota Motor Corporation.
